Italian and Carniolan queens are stocked regularly. Please call to ensure we have the breed you need.

Queens come marked in CA queen cages with a cork and no attendants. Marshmallow release is recommended.  

Please call ahead 15 minutes in advance when picking up queens to allow a beekeeper to retrieve your queen from the bank!

New Name, Same Great Bees!

If you have purchased bees with Shonnard’s in the past, you should be familiar with Selby Apiaries. Selby Apiaries was founded in 1974 in Chico, California by Fred Selby Senior and continues to operate today. 

Fred Selby’s son, Fred Selby Jr. and his brother-in-law Chattin Soule branched out and founded their own apiary in Brownsville, Oregon in 2019 and Flowers First Bees and Honey, LLC was born. 

For a time the brothers operated the apiary together, with Fred building rapport with customers at Shonnard’s and Chat building the packages and nucs that would be sold in the spring. Fred Selby retired in 2023, leaving the apiary in the capable hands of Chattin Soule. 

Chattin works in pollination and has been producing Package Bees, Nucleus Hives, and Queen Bees for hobbyist and commercial beekeepers alike. He has over 15 years of beekeeping experience under his belt and is always happy to share his wisdom with others.
