European winter pear ripens early October. Large long pears require cold storage before use. Very flavorful fresh or dried, the best baking variety.

A popular fruit tree which produces soft and sweet yellow pears with russet-brown skins in fall; showy white flowers in spring and an upright oval habit, very ornamental; can be susceptible to fireblight.

• Pears can be pollinated by most any other pear varieties as long as both are blooming around the same time.
