Western Red Columbine, Aquilegia formosa, prefers full sun to light shade in rich, moist, well-draining soils.
Lovely red and yellow flowers blooms from spring to early summer. Very attractive to pollinators. Drought tolerant. Self seeds freely.
Direct Sow: Mix contents of seed package with 3 times as much volume of vermiculite or fine coir. Spread on bare disturbed ground in fall, winter, or very early spring. Covers 100 square feet.
In containers: plant 2-3 seeds per cell or pot and keep cool and moist, for planting out 6-8" apart in early spring.
